I, too, have tried to watch endure “Mrs Brown’s Boys”; after about 5 minutes (i.e. 6 minutes too long), I had to give up; it is little more than a travesty of humour – as a comedy programme, it is a joke. Seeing all the palaver about it, I was convinced something had gone wrong with my own wit; you have given me hope.

I agree with most of your choices and pigeon-holing of other comedians, too, my particular favourite de jour being the delightfully off-the-wall Bill Bailey. The two exceptions would be “Wossie” (why did his mother not strangle him at birth?) and that Scottish ginger git – pouring bilious scorn on others has never been a way to tickle my chuckle-muscles.Radical Rodentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3729674823895661245.post-70734448226915636942014-12-26T06:26:08.000-08:002014-12-26T06:26:08.000-08:00Yes, not much of a fan of Wossy, though it's h...Yes, not much of a fan of Wossy, though it's hard to tell if I dislike his humour of just because he was impossible to get a reply when I was writing my Stan book. I also heard somebody saying he had a near-front-row seat at the Sparks concert the other night so I have other reasons to be critical. That said, he was better on the Film Review than I'd expected. The Scottish ginger git, I assume, is Frankie Boyle. I see your point. Never a fan but he's recently been winning me over by coming out with some sense and I'd prefer him nine days out of seven rather than MacIntyre or Whitehall. That said: I dislike most standup. So much of it is very derivative and the praise undeserved. There's probably a lot of good stuff out there but it's too left field to get reported.David Waywellnoreply@blogger.com
